Rwanda
Rwanda is a land reborn just 15 years after the conflict between the Hutu and the Tutsi tribes ravaged the country and its people. Now this Land of a Thousand Hills genuinely is one of the safest places in Africa and one of the most awe-inspiring. Small by African standards, it lies in the middle of the Great Rift Valley and is home to the volcanic peaks of the Parc National des Volcans, a natural habitat for the endangered Mountain Gorillas and many other amazing primates. Rwanda’s dense forests and mountains means it’s also a bird watchers paradise with over 700 species. The wetlands and lakes of Akagera National Park are home to the elusive Shoebill Stork. Visitors can also take a historic tour through the capital, Kigali City.

Despite its proximity to the equator, Rwanda is cooled by its high altitude. Days are warm throughout most of the country but cooler in the mountains. There are two rainy seasons from mid February to May and mid October to mid December. The best time to visit is between June and September.
