editorial review

If you want to convince a carnivorous friend that cuisine à la veg can be every bit as tasty and inventive as a meat-muncher's menu, take them to David Bann's stylish restaurant. Dishes such as Thai-spiced fritters of tofu and peas with mango chutney, and tart of braised fennel, spinach and goat's-cheese curd are guaranteed to win converts.

Worth a trip to Edinburgh! Current Rating: 5.0

Written by Jude, Sat 05 Sep 2009

Not just one of the very best vegetarian restaurants in the world but one of the very best restaurants of any kind. So much so that we recently went on a day trip from London to Edinburgh primarily for lunch at David Bann - that''s how good it is!

The most seasoned vegetarian will not have tasted anything like the creative dishes on the menu and meat eaters too wiill be delighted with the unusual and fresh tastes on offer. From hearty roast aubergine, red wine gravy and mash through to fresher noodles and ginger, Asian, European and further parts of the Globe are all represented.

The wine list is eclectic with many organic options. We thoroughly enjoyed an unusual blanc de noir - a white wine made from pinot noir grapes.

And all day opening means you can segue from lunch to dinner with a cocktail or two in between (not that I ever have of course!)
