Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is the perfect mix of heritage, culture, sand and sea with a colourful Buddhist celebration at least once a month. Marco Polo described it as the most beautiful island in the world rich in sights and sounds. Visitors can experience archaeological sites, pristine national parks where elephants, leopards, monkeys and crocodiles roam and rare birds nest. There are Buddhist temples to explore and immense tea and spice plantations. A must visit is the pretty lakeside town of Kandy, home to the legendary Temple of the Tooth. The rock paintings at Sigirlya Rock Fortress and the elephant sanctuaries that dot the island are enlightening and there’s plenty of luxury to be found in hotels like The Lighthouse at the famed Dutch fort of Galle and the Aman Resorts.
