I have just returned from an 11-night break in Phuket, Thailand. I travelled with my wife and five-year-old daughter and stayed at the Indigo Pearl hotel.

Nai Yang is a sleepy unspolit Thai resort located 10 minutes from the airport (I stress no noise from the airport is ever heard). There is a selection of around 20 beach shacks with tables and chairs on the beach which serve the most authentic and wonderful Thai food, there is no glam or crystal glasses just honest unspoilt Thai hospitality with the waves crashing to the sand only metres away. The resort also has a national park with paths on either side and can be explored on foot or by bike.

Now to the hip side of things, the Indigo Pearl hotel is fashioned after an old Thai mining village. The staff were so attentive, looking after our every need and remembering our names which was such a nice personal touch and the check-in was seamless.

The whole hotel has a modern ‘iron works’ feel to it, which was very cool. This theme flows though the hotel restaurant, library, lobby etc through to the guest rooms. At night the complex is lit with neon lights and essence-burning candles to give a magical and romantic feeling.

We stayed in a pearl suite with a balcony overlooking one of the hotel’s three infinity pools. It had a huge bathroom which comprised a separate bath and shower area. The room is stylish and offers true relaxation in the designer complex.

We used many of the hotel’s facilities during our stay. We spent a large amount of time chilling out around the main swimming pool opposite Tin Mine. The pool staff were very attentive and on hand refilling ice cold water and handing out lunch menus and offering local fruits in small baskets. There are three pools, two adults only and one family all designed around the tin mine theme.  One very nice touch was the complementary ice cream served wrapped in a banana leaf. These were handed out mid-afternoon. A very refreshing surprise!

The childrens' club was well run and my daughter always enjoyed the craft activities and other educational fun sessions. There is a small playground also which she enjoyed. We also utilised the hotel’s new gym and tennis courts which are of a very high standard. Again, the staff were fantastic and had ice cold water, refreshing towels and all the tennis gear set up before we arrived at the courts for our booking.

The Library, which is located behind the front desk, is superb and houses a good collection of books in numerous languages as well as two computers with free internet access. All the books are bound in white giving the entire room a real chic, contemporary and chilled out feel. There is also a small DVD collection which can be borrowed and watched in the privacy of your own room.

There is lots of choice for food at the resort if one does not want to venture out. These span from fine dining to really tasty, more casual food for instance the Black Ginger serves high quality Thai food and is a Oriental building on a lake through to the Sunday Brunch served in the Rivet which is renowned on Phuket for its diverse selection of fine foods coupled with free flowing martinis.

We had well made cocktails in the Rebar a ultra modern bar, which is definitely worth a visit.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Indigo Pearl and would recomend it to any others who want extra special service in a very hip hotel coupled with the old fashioned and charming village of Nai Yang.
