When the Carlton Tower opened in 1961, it is hard to believe it was the tallest hotel in London. While that title may have long gone, the hotel has maintained its quality and luxury status befitting its location in the midst of the capital’s most fashionable stores and boutiques.
Now managed by luxury group Jumeirah – which is spreading its wings across the globe far beyond its impressive Dubai base – the Carlton Tower continues to modernise and improve. Its very smart cocktail bar, Gilt, was opened on the ground floor five years ago and the legendary Rib Room has just re-opened after a complete refurbishment, giving the famous restaurant the feeling of a luxury dining club befitting the traditionally excellent fare on offer.
Tucked away off Sloane Street, overlooking the private Cadogan Gardens, the Jumeirah Carlton Tower is therefore close walking distance to some of London’s most desirable shops and restaurants – literally minutes from Harrods, Harvey Nichols and the array of designer establishments in Knightsbridge.
The rooms have all been modernised and the Luxury Suites have lovely views across Cadogan Gardens all the way down to Sloane Square, with London’s distinctive skyline and buildings to left and right. The comfort of the accommodation is matched by the excellence of the service, something of a hallmark of all the hotels bearing the Jumeirah name.
As the Jumeirah Carlton Tower moves into the second half of its first century, it remains one of London’s most desirable and high quality luxury hotels.
