Over the past two years, I have stayed in Dubai at the Madinat Jumeirah three times and thoroughly enjoyed each occasion.

I must admit, it’s not somewhere I would initially have considered spending my hard earned holidays, however following my first trip - which was a company-organised Christmas works event where we stayed at the Mina A'Salam - I have found it hard to stay away!

The Mina had always suited me down to the ground, whether I have stayed with friends or family, however an unforeseen free upgrade to one of the other parts of the hotel on one particular trip was an absolute dream (I won't say where we ended up as that would really make you jealous but let’s just say in hindsight it would have been worth every penny if we had paid the extra!).

Why is it so good?? Well it definitely hits all the right notes where you would expect it to in terms of service, quality of food, location, room size, etc (actually the service is absolutely outstanding and never pushy which is hard to get right). Where it really excels is the fact that it never seems to be overcrowded even at full capacity and there always remains tranquility, even around the pool areas.

The Talise Spa is amazing and worth a visit, as is Wild Wadi. These are all things that you would expect to hear I imagine, but for me it's the smaller things that make the difference whether it is something minor but personal within the service you receive, through to the originally sourced bathroom products and the well finished rooms.

Try and get the premium upgrade if you are in the Mina, the limo to and from the airport is just the start of it, the nibbles available during the day will blow your mind.

There may not be much available in terms of history here, but there are some good day trips available, and if all you want to do is just sit by the pool after an amazing breakfast and have a chap (or chappess) bring you an ice cold flannel and some fruit on a stick when it gets too hot you've got it made here.
