If you’re looking for a new place to try for skiing this season and style is also top of your agenda, look no further than the Copperhill Mountain Lodge in Are, Sweden. The hotel scooped the 2009 European Hotel Design Award for best interiors for its spa, health and leisure facilities.
Copperhill Mountain Lodge was launched in December 2008 and has just opened its doors for its second season. With its modern twist on ski lodge styling, Copperhill was designed by acclaimed US architect Peter Bohlin, who has also penned designs for Bill Gates’ private residence and Apple stores.
As if that wasn’t enough, the location is stunning, with the hotel sitting atop Mount Forberget perched on the tree line, with camera-grabbing views. And even better – this ski-in, ski-out mountain resort has its own ski lift with access to Are’s piste system, the largest in northern Europe.
Already a member of Design Hotels, Copperhill has 112 suites and hotel rooms, two restaurants, two bars and that award-winning spa, inspired by Sami traditions. The hotel will keep you busy – if you want it to – with heliskiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, ice driving, mountain biking, hiking, paragliding, ziplining, rafting and kayaking all available nearby, as well as a shuttle into Are, packed with restaurants and all the other après ski you’d need.
Fly to Are/Ostersund airport or Trondheim, both of which have direct flights from London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and several other European cities. Helicopter transfer from the airports to the hotel’s own helipad takes 15 minutes, road transfer (bus, taxi, rental car) takes 1–2 hours.
Room rates start at €200 for a double this season.
